A New Room Where Girls Find Their Voice
The girls are gearing up to start rocking and rolling with the addition of a new and fully equipped music room at Girls Inc. of Carpinteria — made possible through the generosity of
local singer/songwriter sisters and Montecito residents Lila and Georgia MacPhail.
It isn’t just a room with musical equipment – it’s a special place where girls in our program can experiment, create, and discover a part of themselves they might not have known was there.
Why Music Matters Here
Every girl deserves the chance to explore who she is – and music is a powerful tool for that exploration. Through music, girls can build their confidence, sharpen their focus, and strengthen their emotional resilience. For many of our girls, it also offers something simpler and just as important: a place to feel joyful, expressive, and free.
With this new space, girls will have the chance to:
– Build confidence through performance, songwriting, and creative expression
– Develop discipline and focus by learning an instrument
– Process emotions in a healthy, expressive outlet
– Connect with peers through group music-making and shared creativity
– Discover a new passion — for some, this room might spark a lifelong love of music
A Gift That Will Echo for Years
Lila and Georgia MacPhail’s generosity gives our girls the message that their creativity matters, that their voices are worth investing in, and that this community believes in their potential.
“You can do anything… try everything, don’t be afraid to express yourself… This is such a safe place to do that, and so I hope this room brings that out of them, and you know, I hope that they know that they don’t have to be afraid to share what they love and do something they love, because that’s what inspires art.”
— Georgia MacPhail
We are deeply grateful for their vision and support, and we can’t wait to see what our girls create in this space!
Stay tuned for updates on our music room programming as the vision for this room continues to take shape.
We are also seeking volunteer music instructors who want to share their expertise with the girls! If interested, please inquire at the front desk or contact information@girlsinc-carp.org.
Thank you to the MacPhail Family for giving girls the space to be strong, smart, and bold — one note at a time.
